Dental Assistant (Pediatric) – Sign on Bonus

Responsibilities- Assist the Dentist and Dental Hygienist in chairside duties with pediatric patients, including seating the patient and providing appropriate instrumentation and materials.
- Educate pediatric patients and parents on dental disease and preventative home care, including brushing and flossing techniques.
- Serve as liaison to patients in telephone communications of medical/dental issues.
- Consult with the dentist and other members of the health care team as necessary; facilitate communication among clinical and non‑clinical staff.
- Perform other necessary duties as required by the Johnson Health Center and directed by the Dentist.
- Prepare dental patients for treatment, including updating and recording medical and dental history and vital signs.
- Prepare appropriate instrumentation and materials for dental procedures.
- Assist the dentist or hygienist in the examination and treatment of patients.
- Provide patient education and instruction in proper oral hygiene techniques and diet.
- Provide post‑operative instructions as prescribed.
- Dismiss patient following treatment and accompany them to the front desk after dentist or hygienist completes the dental record.
- Obtain diagnostic digital x‑rays and perform dental prophylaxis, fluoride varnish, sealants, topical anesthesia, and sutures.
- Assist dentist or hygienist in medical or dental emergencies.
- Remove instruments after procedures and prepare them for sterilization.
- Maintain autoclave processes and instrument inventory.
- Keep operatories stocked, ordering supplies as needed.
- Clean operatories and equipment in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Clean suction lines and traps on a weekly basis and clean traps in the equipment room every other week.
- Clean autoclaves and test sterilization monthly.
- Pull trash from operatories twice weekly.
- Assist with the school dental program and other school program activities.
- Assist at the front desk: answer phones, schedule appointments, and receive payment.
- Perform limited administrative functions involving treatment notes and charting.
- Support front‑office procedures when the Front Office Specialist is absent.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in the Johnson Health Center QI program.
- Attend mandatory OSHA infection‑control seminars and follow all infection‑control policies.
- Operate office equipment and computers proficiently.
- Communicate effectively with staff and patients.
- Multi‑task with varied and unrelated duties.
- Completion of a high‑school diploma or equivalent.
- Two to five years of previous experience in a dental setting preferred.
- Ability to work well with a team required.
- Working knowledge of MS Office products and general computer usage.
- Excellent organizational skills required.
This is an FLSA Non‑Exempt position. This is an OSHA high‑risk position. This is an ADA negotiable position.
