Overview
Residential Support Worker – SEN Residential School/Children's Home in Lymington.
Full-time - Temp to perm contract
. Academics are recruiting on behalf of an Ofsted rated 'Outstanding' residential SEN school in between Lymington and Brockenhurst in the New Forest. All young people have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) with their primary special need being Autism and require support to access education, have difficulty initiating or limited social interactions and need support with organisation and problem solving, which can hamper independence.
They may typically be working at or above age-related expectations or with moderate learning difficulties. They are looking to appoint a number of experienced Residential Support Worker’s to join them on a temp to perm contract. You will be required to help develop their independence skills, pursue hobbies and introduce new hobbies or any activities the young person would like to try, understand the wider community and help build relationships and make friends.
- Help develop independence skills and support participation in activities and hobbies requested by the young people.
- Support social interaction development and problem solving to aid independence.
- Understand the wider community and help build relationships and make friends.
- Be able to drive to support transport needs; driving a standard mini bus as part of the role, or be willing to.
- Participate in shifts that include weekends and bank holidays.
- Support pupils in a residential/educational setting with their EHCP goals.
- Experience in care, residential or educational settings is preferable, but candidates new to the sector with empathy and motivation are welcome.
- Must be able to drive; driving a standard mini bus or willingness to.
- Shifts include Early (07:15 – 15:30), Late (15:00 – 22:30), and Long day (07:15 – 22:15).
- Once on permanent contract, complete a Level 3 RQF within two years of starting the role (supported by the school).
- Strong team player, confident, motivated and well organised; patient and committed with a genuine desire to help others.
During contract: £13.68 per hour. Once permanent: £13.12 per hour up to £14.88 per hour, dependent on experience. Hours are preferably 40 per week, with part-time options of 32 or 24 hours per week available.
