We are expanding our Immigration & Asylum Department and are seeking a Trainee Caseworker Assistant (Apprenticeship) to join our busy Legal Aid team.

This is an apprenticeship position designed for individuals at the early stages of their legal career who wish to develop practical experience in immigration and asylum law.

You will work under close supervision of a senior caseworker and assist with a varied caseload including:

• Asylum and protection claims
• Human rights applications
• Fresh claims
• Appeals and tribunal preparation

You will also support vulnerable clients through our walk‑in and appointment‑based service, within a structured and supportive environment.

• Assisting senior caseworkers with day‑to‑day case progression
• Drafting correspondence and assisting with legal representations (under supervision)
• Preparing bundles and supporting appeal preparation
• Liaising with clients, interpreters, and external agencies
• Maintaining accurate case records in line with Legal Aid Agency requirements
• Complying with confidentiality, AML, and professional standards at all times

Essential:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent organisational and time‑management abilities
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, demanding environment
• Genuine interest in immigration and asylum law

Desirable:

• Some knowledge of immigration law or legal procedures
• Law degree or currently studying law (or equivalent)
• Multilingual skills (advantageous but not essential)

• This role is offered as an apprenticeship
