To contribute to the provision of the Fetal Medicine service, ensuring the highest possible standards of care for women and their families. To act as an excellent clinical role model and practice autonomously within the parameters of guidelines/policies and sphere of professional practice.
You will be required to work within the Fetal Medicine Department, which promotes the Trust's values, objectives, priorities and high performance standards both individually and as a team. Hence, the Trust's success is dependent on all staff to play an active role to make sure that the existing good practice is universally embedded within the organisation.
Job responsibilities- Provide expert clinical midwifery care and give advice and guidance on the midwifery care of women, babies and their families.
- Communicate complex and sensitive information to women and their families, enabling them to make informed choices about their care; use empathy and reassurance at times of vulnerability, emotions, distress and bereavement, overcoming communication barriers where they occur and acting as advocate to women.
- Identify abnormal screening results, refer and liaise with appropriate members of the multi‑disciplinary team (e.g., for high‑risk obstetric care, neonatal referrals, safeguarding issues or other specialist needs).
- Lead and coordinate midwives to provide midwifery care for women during the fetal medicine pathway; provide clinical and managerial leadership.
- Lead on the investigation of incidents related to fetal medicine.
- Assist consultants in performing invasive procedures such as CVS/amniocentesis, amniodrainage, feticide, etc.; discuss after‑care and notification of results; ensure all necessary follow‑up plan of care is booked and an appropriate consultant referral is made.
- Registered Midwife
- Evidence of continuing professional development post‑registration up to degree level
- Professional Midwifery Advocate
- Significant post‑registration experience and achievement of all Band 6 midwifery competencies
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Local resolution of complaints
- Application of evidence‑based practice
- Knowledge and experience of fetal medicine
- Evidence of initiating and implementing change processes
- Understanding and knowledge of current issues in Midwifery, Antenatal and Newborn Screening, Fetal Medicine and the wider NHS services
- Evidence of self‑development, including completion of the online NHS Screening Programmes, Antenatal and Newborn Screening e‑learning courses
- Application of evidence‑based practice
- Understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk
- Ability to problem‑solve, anticipate and forward‑plan
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain internal and external relationships
- Ability to communicate effectively and fluently in a range of difficult situations and across communication barriers
- Ability to discuss complex emotive and sensitive issues with staff and the public; communicate complex information and concepts
- Self‑directing with excellent time‑management skills
- Analysis of complex situations and ability to provide possible solutions from a range of options available
- Prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines according to the needs of the service
- Experience of establishing and developing task‑specific groups, producing terms of reference and chairing and leading meetings
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
£47,810 to £54,710 a year per annum pro rata
