About the roleAn exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Pharmacist to join our friendly and supportive Medicines Use, Safety, Governance and Quality team within the Pharmacy Department at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Key responsibilities- Lead, manage and develop the Medicines Information Service providing a high quality, customer responsive service in enquiry answering, literature evaluation and the provision of active information on all aspects of medicines and their use.
- Operationally manage the Drugs and Therapeutics Committee and represent BHFT at IC and Integrated Care System levels.
- Lead the high cost drug engagement programme, ensuring medicines use aligns with local, regional and national governance and commissioning frameworks.
- Provide specialist advice and support to clinical service lines on high cost drug requests, commissioning of medicines and implementation of new medicines.
- Support the Pharmacy clinical teams with the development and implementation of medication protocols, shared care guidelines, formulary reviews, patient group directions and multidisciplinary team working.
- Disseminate information about new drugs, licence changes, ADRs and other medicines information to the pharmacy department and contribute to the shortages management programme.
- Audit the Medicines Information Service, monitor performance against UKMi standards and user satisfaction, producing workload reports.
- Train pharmacy staff in the provision of Medicines Information services according to UKMi standards.
- Provide leadership and professional guidance to the department and clinical service lines related to national commissioning of high cost medicines, including NICE TA, CDF and horizon scanning.
- Support the creation, implementation and monitoring of the medicines cost improvement plan.
- Pharmacy degree (Masters level) or higher.
- Registration as a pharmacist with the GPhC.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent.
- Postgraduate Masters in Pharmacy.
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
- Stage 1 Faculty Member (MIFRPS) or equivalent.
- Validated expertise in hospital pharmacy.
- Experience supervising and training staff.
- Knowledge of medicines information and formulary service developments.
- Knowledge of medicines legislation and confidentiality.
- Experience in process redesign, continuous improvement and project management.
- Experience running a medicines prescribing and/or governance committee.
- Organised; able to devise, plan and manage work programmes.
- Critical review/analysis and interpretation of clinical literature and medicines legislation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to influence other professionals.
- Supervisory and training/mentoring skills.
- Leadership and service improvement capabilities.
- Enthusiastic and passionate about area of expertise.
- Open to development and change; flexible and proactive.
- Good interpersonal skills; confident communication at senior level.
