The Teacher Practitioner – Internal Quality & Moderator plays a key role in ensuring the highest standards of teaching, learning, assessment and quality assurance across apprenticeship and work-based learning provision at Luton Borough Council. The post holder will plan and deliver high-quality teaching and learning within curriculum areas, such as Leadership & Management, Business Administration and Customer Service, using approved planning tools such as schemes of work, session plans, individual learning plans and practitioner reviews, to meet the needs of learners, employers and the wider community.
The role has a strong focus on internal quality assurance and moderation, including oversight of End Point Assessment (EPA) and Work‑Based Learning. The post holder will have a clear understanding of apprenticeship standards and the associated Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs), ensuring these are fully embedded within apprenticeship programmes. Working collaboratively with delivery teams, employers and other stakeholders, the post holder will support the planning of apprenticeship programmes, monitor learner progress towards Gateway, and prepare and coach apprentices to achieve successful End Point Assessment outcomes.
As a moderator/observer for LAL, the post holder will support a consistent and robust quality assurance framework across programmes and venues. This will include monitoring the quality of teaching, learning and assessment; coordinating the work of Internal Quality Assurers (IQAs); liaising with delivery teams and internal and external quality assurers; and disseminating feedback and outcomes from awarding bodies to drive continuous improvement.
The role also involves carrying out internal quality audits to ensure compliance with awarding body and organisational requirements.
The post holder will promote effective working relationships with learners and employers throughout the assessment process and will be proactive in the use and promotion of innovative and digital solutions to enhance working practices. They will support colleagues to develop their skills where needed and actively participate in staff and curriculum meetings, training and professional development activities.

About YouYou will have experience working in a teaching or training role, with the ability to support and collaborate effectively with delivery staff. You will also have experience working as an Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) on learning programmes that are subject to both internal and external quality assurance processes, demonstrating a strong understanding of quality standards and compliance requirements.
You will have experience of working with apprenticeship standards and a clear understanding of Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs), including how these are assessed and embedded within learning programmes. You will be able to demonstrate some experience of managing learning programmes, including the preparation of high-quality schemes of work and session plans, and an understanding of how to monitor learner progress across the learner journey.
