Katzen Eye Group is seeking an experienced Optician to service our Optical Shop in Mercy Medical Center, Lutherville and Rosedale, Md. Generous Spiff program. Our Top Candidates will bring at least two years of experience working as an optician or optical sales associate. ABOC highly preferred. However, we do have a strong training program and will consider candidates with a strong customer service, retail sales or medical practice background. Traveling on a daily basis to either one of our optical shops in Lutherville, Rosedale and in Mercy Medical Center is mandatory for this position.

The Optician will sell and dispense eyeglasses, contacts, and other optical aids, according to written prescriptions. They will advise patients on various types of lenses and spectacle frames, advice on style, weight, sizing and color.

• Provides patient education regarding lens materials, products, and designs
• Performs prescription analysis such as interpreting and transposing
• Provides recommendations to patients regarding proper eyeglass frame selection
• Determines ideal recommendations by incorporating frame design, lens materials and optics with patient’s prescription and lifestyle considerations
• Performs eyeglass frame adjustments and repairs. Includes proper alignment of frame, comfortable fit, functional vision and instructions on proper wear and care of eyeglasses
• Performs accurate measurements of lens power, pupillary distance, multifocal segment height, lens base curve, vertex distance, and prism power
• Orders custom lens products from identified vendors and monitors process to ensure on-time delivery and communicates any delays to patient
• Post charges, patient and insurance claim payments and bill insurance when needed
• Order contact lenses and/or trials
• Verifies lens prescriptions of ordered lenses and checks for accuracy
• Assists in the return of authorized merchandise to manufacturers
• Design, arrange and maintain product displays
• Monitors product inventory levels
• Maintains inventory of office supplies and other materials necessary to properly run the department
• Maintains instruments and hand tools used
• Maintains job knowledge by participating in continuing education opportunities and training
• Ability to perform troubleshoot to determine cause for issues with new eyeglasses
• Follows clinical workflow to ensure a clean hand-off from clinic to dispensary.
• Work in cooperation with other dispensary associates to meet and exceed daily and monthly sales goals
