Psychiatric Nurse – Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC)

The Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) manages medications, screens medical issues, and promotes health in a Tier IV BHUC, engaging beneficiaries in whole‑person care for mental health and substance abuse crises.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages meds with providers; administers and documents treatments; screens and monitors side effects (AIMS, nursing assessments).
  • Builds rapport; engages in health promotion, prevention, and education; develops medication adherence strategies.
  • Coordinates with providers; educates the team on symptoms and side effects.
  • Directs and supervises LPNs; supports triage and medical screenings (vitals, emergencies).
  • Documents billable encounters in EMR within 24 hours.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position may oversee LPN staff.
Qualifications Education/Experience
  • Must possess a minimum of an Associate’s in Nursing with 1 year of experience with serious mental illness.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Medical knowledge.
  • Empathetic interaction.
  • Strong clinical skills.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid NC/Compact Nursing License.
  • Driver’s license and insurance.

Must be able to drive and operate a personal vehicle safely and adhere to all applicable state and traffic laws.
