Position Summary
The Finance Director is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of Children’s Health of Carolina (CHoC), ensuring fiscal integrity, compliance, and sustainability across all locations. This role manages accounting functions including accounts payable and receivable, prepares detailed financial reports such as profit and loss statements, and provides strategic financial guidance to executive leadership. The Finance Director also oversees the billing department and revenue cycle operations to ensure accurate claim processing, timely reimbursement, and optimized cash flow.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & Reporting
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual Profit & Loss (P&L) statements
- Develop and manage annual budgets and financial forecasts
- Monitor cash flow and financial performance metrics
- Monitor provider productivity and visit volumes
- Provide regular financial reports to executive leadership
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities for cost control and revenue growth
- Ensure financial compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations
- Oversee vendor payments and ensure timely processing
- Review and approve invoices
- Maintain vendor relationships
- Monitor expense trends and negotiate contracts when appropriate
- Monitor receivables and aging reports
- Ensure timely posting of payments
- Track outstanding balances and coordinate collections when needed
- Work closely with billing team to resolve payment issues
- Supervise medical billing and coding operations
- Ensure accurate claim submission and follow-up
- Monitor denial trends and implement corrective action plans
- Maintain compliance with payer rules and regulations
- Establish productivity benchmarks and KPIs for billing staff
- Provide training and performance management for billing personnel
- Analyze reimbursement patterns
- Optimize charge capture and payment posting processes
- Implement improvements to reduce days in A/R
- Ensure accurate fee schedules and payer contracts
- Serve as financial advisor to executive leadership
- Support growth initiatives and new service lines
- Assist with contract negotiations and vendor management
- Participate in strategic planning and expansion initiatives
- Coordinate internal and external audits
- Maintain financial policies and procedures
- Ensure HIPAA and financial data security compliance
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- Master’s degree or CPA preferred
- Minimum 5 years of healthcare financial management experience
- Strong experience with accounts payable & receivable, medical billing and revenue cycle management, financial reporting and P&L analysis, and managing teams
- Advanced Excel and financial software proficiency
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement models
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- High attention to detail
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Work Environment – Office‑based
- May require occasional travel to practice locations
- Standard business hours with occasional extended hours during audits or reporting cycles
