Position DescriptionSafely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

- Perform journeyperson-level carpentry work for the construction, maintenance, alteration, and repair of campus buildings, structures, furnishings, and related components, including doors, cabinets, partitions, ceilings, flooring, concrete, roofing, masonry, and tile.
- Support Operations Division continuous improvement efforts by complying with all safety and health regulations, operating procedures, attendance policies, and professional appearance standards.
- Assess job and project requirements; prepare material requisitions and cost estimates; and maintain accurate records of labor and materials expended.
- Construct, repair and install doors, cabinets, shelves, windows and wood and glass panels. Perform alterations to existing structures by installing or removing walls, partitions or similar construction.
- Communicate job status and operational issues to the Project Manager.
- Train and provide guidance to apprenticeship program participants and temporary laborers on job-related tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Team Unit Manager.
- Basic knowledge of operation and safe use of all power and hand tools/equipment common to the construction field.
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyperson.
This position requires eligibility to drive TTU vehicles, including a valid U.S. driver license and two years of driving experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Good communication skills to effectively interact with customers and shop personnel.
- Five (5) years in designated trade as journeyperson carpenter or related field.
Adherence to robust safety practices and compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations are responsibilities of all TTU employees.
