Position Description
Performs specialized post‑doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with Ph.D. studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of the project. May supervise research and student assistants.
Major/ Essential Functions
- Cell culture under BSL2+
- Assists in maintenance of lab equipment. Performs or coordinates cleaning and sterilization of laboratory glassware and instruments as needed
- Performs or coordinates person‑specific lab duties including making buffers, aliquoting reagents, calibrating pH meter
- Prepares or coordinates the preparation of basic solutions for use within the lab
- Keeps the laboratory and lab equipment clean, operational, and inspection ready each day
- Prepares and maintains impeccable and up‑to‑date lab notebook
- Helps to plan and coordinate collaborative projects & guides new lab members and rotation students
- Maintains and helps to manage lab inventories
- Assists in designing experiments for manuscript and grant preparation
- Oversees training of graduate and medical students conducting research in the lab during the summer and academic year
- Assists in building the lab's infrastructure and inventory
- Oversees protocol development and in vivo studies using HIV‑infected humanized mice applying BSL3 practices
- Develops protocols for in vitro studies using HIV‑infected primary cells for flow cytometry, live cell imaging, cell sorting, genomics, or proteomic procedures applying BSL3 practices
- Reads the current literature to ensure performance of experiments using the most up‑to‑date protocols and cutting‑edge technology applying BSL3 practices
- Attends weekly lab meetings and journal clubs. Determines vascular dysfunction in mice applying BSL3 practices
The postdoctoral fellow will read, write, and communicate fluently in English. The candidate will work without supervision, analyze data, maintain accurate experimental records, and write manuscripts for publication.
The ability to work independently is the designated research projects is a requirement. The fellow must be a team player, get along with the rest of the lab members, and work diligently to meet the deadlines set by the federal and local research sponsors.

Required Qualifications- Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g.,
D.Sc., M.D.) in area of project specialization. - Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof.
- Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
- Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public.
- Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed.
- Documented postdoctoral experiences (minimum of 1 year at an accredited institution).
- Research training in pulmonary cell biology, HIV, or virology.
