Power & Utilities Technician – Lubbock, TX
Leprino Foods is building a 600+ person manufacturing facility in Lubbock, TX. We seek a Power & Utilities Technician on our Plant production team to help drive innovation, process improvement, and production efficiencies. The plant will open in 2024 (Phase
1) and be fully operational by 2026 (Phase
2).
The Power & Utilities Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all steam, refrigeration, compressed air and support equipment. This includes safe repair and troubleshooting of electrical and instrumentation systems, calibration of instruments, performing mechanical, preventive and predictive maintenance, and maintaining 5S standards. The technician will also participate on the hazmat response team.
Primary Responsibilities- Perform preventative maintenance to optimize equipment reliability.
- Operate designated power equipment to achieve required mode of operation.
- Perform water treatment tests and adjust equipment to stay in compliance for normal operation.
- Communicate effectively with co‑workers, team leads, and supervisors.
- Perform cleaning duties as required and maintain housekeeping and 5S standards.
- Work safely following safety procedures, policies, and critical safety rules.
- Follow the company’s good manufacturing policies and procedures.
- Ensure products meet food safety, regulatory and quality requirements by following the Food Safety Plan, Quality Plan and company policies.
Pay: $36 per hour. Night shift (6 pm–6 am) differential: additional $1 per hour. Payroll runs weekly.
Required Qualifications (You Have At Least)- Must be 18 years of age.
- Ability to speak, read and write English to understand SOPs, GMPs, complete documentation, and troubleshoot systems.
- Strong problem‑solving ability when supervision is not available.
- Prior experience in a similar technician role with an electrical background.
- Experience in maintenance pneumatics, electrical controls, and schematic reading.
- Ability to work in high‑noise areas and occasional exposure to temperature extremes.
- Basic knowledge of process equipment and operations.
- Dairy or food manufacturing experience.
- Knowledge of government and industrial regulations (PSM, OSHA, USDA).
- Computer proficiency: e‑mail, internet, Microsoft Office, CMMS (SAP, Maximo).
- Experience with AC frequency drives, instrumentation, welding, mechanical repairs (including rebuilding gearboxes and utility equipment), and PLC troubleshooting.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Prefer two years experience with boiler/ammonia refrigeration.
- Associate’s or two–year degree in a maintenance related field.
- Forklift or scissor‑lift certification.
Power & Utilities Technician positions are physically demanding. The role requires being on your feet the entire shift, including standing, walking, kneeling, working in wet/dry/cold/hot environments, tight spaces, climbing steps and ladders, working at extreme heights, making pipe connections, using hand tools, physically transporting parts and tools, and lifting equipment parts that can weigh up to 70 lbs. Power Technicians must be able to work overtime and holidays when required.
