Histologic Technician
Position DescriptionThis position is responsible for providing technical support in the histology laboratory. Employees in this position process, embed, cut, stain, and prepare tissue slides for pathologist review during diagnostic evaluations.
Major/Essential Functions- Immediate specimen handling.
- Accuracy in specimen , cutting, staining, and cover slipping.
- Ensures daily/weekly cleaning, reagent change, and rotation are performed.
- Ability to test tissue for efficient decalcification.
- Continuity of documentation for multiple technicians.
- Properly sections tissue in paraffin blocks.
- Orients sections properly on slides.
- Follows protocols for different tissue types.
- Embeds tissue into paraffin blocks.
Must be a Certified Histotechnician.
Required QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent; four years of experience, of which two years are in a histology department involving fixation, microtomy, processing, staining, and gross room work.
