Job Title:
Correctional Unit Dentist
Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth, gums, and related oral structures of inmate patients and employees injured as a result of TDCJ-. Ensures that appropriate dental care is accessible and provided to the inmate population in a timely fashion. Renders dental judgment regarding care provided to inmates assigned to the unit. Works under general direction of the Regional Dental Director, with wide latitude to exercise initiative and independent judgment.
Directly supervises 2-4 dental hygienists in the unit dental services. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Major/Essential Functions- Directly supervises dental staff and provides dental services.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Provides chairside dental care, trains employees, plans, assigns, and directs work; assists in appraising performance; encourages dental staff, addresses complaints, and resolves problems.
- Uses clinic resources productively, including time of the supervisor and those supervised.
- Travel may be required to perform chairside dentistry at other units as assigned.
Current license to practice dentistry by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners required.
Current Drug Enforcement Agency controlled substances registration certificate required.

Pay InformationPay Grade Maximum: salary commensurate with related education, experience and/or skills.
