Residential Counselor - Young Adult Population

— ( Monday thru Friday, full-time 40hrs/week, schedule varying (with flexibility) between the hours of 8am-8pm (shift dependent)

Pay Range $20.59 - $21.21 per hour

Position Summary

We have an opening for an individual to work in our Young Adult Shelter Staff program. Residential Counselors are responsible for working closely with young adult (ages 18-24) clients in a congregate emergency residential shelter site to provide life skills support to individuals who are staying at the shelter. This position also provides oversight of site operations, which includes enforcing safety measures, program rules, and expectations using a trauma-informed and client centered approach.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Assist with screening, intake activities and orientation of new clients into the shelter program
  • Provide guidance and information to clients regarding the daily activity schedule, house rules, and policies
  • Ability to adhere to and enforce program rules policies and procedures
  • Oversee security and safety
  • Complete housekeeping duties
  • Ensure daily chores are completed
  • Provide emergency crisis management to individuals
  • Provide support in weekly pantry pick-up/delivery from Merrimack Valley Foodbank for Youth Services programming
  • Provide coverage/support at day program located at the Youth Opportunity Center (167 Dutton St), as needed
  • Opportunity to accrue approved OT through additional shifts, as needed/available

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent education
  • Excellent customer service, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills in basic computer software and data collection
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year of previous experience working with individuals in need of social services (preferably low-income individuals)
  • Experience in youth programming
  • Demonstrated experience supporting underrepresented communities
