SummaryHealth Benefits Navigator serves as the Health Center’s primary contact for patient and client needs such as assisting patients in completing Mass Health and Health Insurance Assistance Program applications; providing information to insured, underinsured and uninsured individuals about coverage and about alternate financing and other financial assistance programs that may be available; and acting as an administrative resource to the health center and or billing staff when problems or questions with eligibility arise.
Provides health insurance education and outreach enrollment activities onsite and off-site. Serves as an administrative resource to the health center and works closely with community agency leaders to increase awareness and provide education on the health insurance enrollment process and in navigating the health care system.
- Provide excellent customer service to all patients and staff in a diverse, multi-cultural and fast-paced environment.
- Screen and assist patients in applying for Mass Health, Connector Care, Qualified Health Plans, Qualified Dental Plans, Children’s Medical Security Plan, Health Safety Net and other applicable services to arrange needed coverage for medical or dental services, via the states electronic system or paper form application.
- Educate and inform patients about their responsibilities, the re-determination process and the importance of maintaining medical/dental coverage.
- Conduct follow-up with patients to ensure that the process is complete and assist patients with enrolling into an appropriate health plan.
- Verify patient information and respond to patient requests.
- Maintain financial information and handle telephone inquiries regarding account balances while working closely with the billing department.
- Attend department meetings and trainings as needed to maintain current knowledge of registration processes, health center systems and changes.
- Work closely with the Mass Health Enrollment Center, Health Connector Office as well as the local hospitals.
- Attend meetings and trainings to stay current on departmental, health center and state changes
- Track and complete reports as needed.
- Complete Navigator Certification training within first month of hire, yearly and as needed.
- Coordinates all aspects related to Outreach and Enrollment for the insurance enrollment department
- Participates in community events and health fairs and provides culturally appropriate enrollment education while working closely with the Health Promotion department.
- Conduct Outreach and Enrollment presentations for Lowell CHC and local staff at community agencies.
- Attend outreach activities in the community to increase awareness about health insurance programs, health care and available services. Provides accurate reports regarding events attended, activities conducted, number of participants and time spent.
- Make use of existing health center affiliations and resources as well as develop new methods of reaching new clients in the community.
- Network with community agency leaders to establish foundation and linkage with community agencies.
- Assist in the design and distribution of multilingual materials, including posters, display boards, educational brochures and other health related information.
- Serve as spokesperson for the department and/or organization for multiple media venues pertaining to health care insurance enrollment.
- Attend and participate in trainings, webinars and conference calls to stay current on state changes pertaining to health insurance.
- Identify problem situations within the department and be a part of the solution - provide input and suggestions of departmental improvements to supervisor.
- Provide training and updates to new and existing staff on an ongoing and needed basis.
