Job Overview
This position evaluates, develops and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients with a wide variety of disabilities in inpatient, transitional care, and outpatient settings. The role is educated and experienced in treating patients of all age groups according to the principles and practice of occupational therapy. Treatment plans aim to help patients achieve maximum level of independence in activities of daily living using therapeutic exercises, activities, modalities, and skills.
The position provides clinical mentorship and support to staff therapists, training them during orientation, rotation, and ongoing supervision.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Occupational Therapy (OT) license.
- National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy registration.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Three (3) years of clinical experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides comprehensive evaluation and assessment of patient’s physical, cognitive and self-care status.
- Assesses and reassesses patient pain and other problem areas, including patient’s goals, to develop appropriate treatment plans.
- Sets realistic short- and long-term goals and plan of care related to patient’s OT needs.
- Interacts professionally with patient and family, involving patient in plan formation, and formulates teaching plans.
- Communicates clearly with patients, families, physicians, staff and other customers.
- Demonstrates ability to carry out appropriate treatment plans; demonstrates initiative, organization, and follow-through.
- Works collaboratively with interdisciplinary health care team and patient’s family to promote safety and independence in discharge planning.
- Supervises and educates students and evaluates student performance.
- Educates colleagues and hospital employees regarding the role of occupational therapy.
- Contributes to department operations, adheres to billing guidelines, charges, insurance limitations and other departmental operations.
- Maintains timely documentation in the medical record for all patients treated.
- Complies with documentation regulations and agency policies.
- Ensures documentation and billing accuracy according to departmental guidelines.
- Prepares department for JCAHO surveys and participates in CQI activities.
- Maintains collaborative relationships within the team.
- Acts as clinical resource, consulting advanced clinicians.
- Participates in overseeing services provided in the section/assigned supervisory units.
