Primary Function
The General Superintendent's primary responsibility is to administer S&R Corporation's core values, oversee the company field operations, and work with the project teams to deliver quality projects on time and under budget while ensuring safety is at the forefront on all jobsites.
Essential Functions Construction/Demolition Operations- Responsible for field management and coordination of all projects
- Inspect all projects twice per month or as required
- Ensure sites are being kept in an organized, clean, safe, and professional manner
- Review and coordinate the workforce schedule daily/weekly
- Review schedule, logistics, and constructability plans with project teams during construction
- Provide direction to resolve operational and project issues
- Provide technical assistance to project teams
- Conduct Superintendent/Foremen meetings monthly
- Ensure project schedules, field reports, and safety documentation are updated
- Enforce company QA/QC procedures and best practices
- Provide oversight and adherence to the safety program, policies and procedures in coordination with the Safety Manager
- Coordinate safety training for project teams and field personnel in collaboration with Safety Manager
- Assist in developing and sharing SOP's, best practices and techniques, etc.
- Advise on production including resource loading, materials, and equipment
- Prepare logistics and site-specific safety plans with the project teams
- Visit future project sites and attend bid walk throughs as required
- Aid estimating department on budget review, logistics, schedule, and constructability
- Advise on risk mitigation strategies during preconstruction
- Participate in weekly Department Leader Meetings
- Participate in Superintendent and Foreman interviewing and hiring process
- Identify areas of procedural improvement for review and/or implementation
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients, trade contractors, architects, and engineers
- Assist in recruiting, mentoring, and retaining personnel
- Attend internal meetings including project closeout
- Perform and participate in project team performance evaluations
- Track superintendent certificates and licenses
- Streamline communication from office to field personnel
- Collaborate with Safety Manager on department and project-specific safety needs, including but not limited to safety inspections, trainings, PPE, etc.
- Assist with company fleet and equipment scheduling and management
- Understanding of Local Union trades and requirements
- Heavy Civil, Bridge Construction, Marine Construction, Heavy Demolition, and Environmental Services experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent field experience
- Understand design, engineering, and construction
- Minimum 20 years of experience in heavy civil, bridge construction, marine construction, and demolition
- Leadership and mentoring capabilities
- Team building capabilities
- Excellent communication skills
- 30 Hour OSHA Certification
- Heavy equipment operation experience (licensed heavy equipment operator – preferred)
- Ability to use technology (construction management and office software)
- Understanding of construction law (HR practices, contracts, and insurance)
- Long term and short-term strategic planning capabilities
- Ability to work in all construction delivery methods
- Moving about to accomplish tasks, moving from one place to another
- Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling
- Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm
- Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips
- Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
- Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound
- Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Extensive travel required.
