Overview
The Basketball 7th Grade Head Coach is responsible for coaching student-athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition. The coach motivates student-athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport. Works closely with student-athletes to develop good character on and off the court. Assists teachers, counselors, and other school personnel with student-athlete attendance, academics, and behavior in and out of basketball season.

- 7th Grade
- 15-20 student-athletes
- Boys In-Season:
- Weeks: 10
- Contests: 13 + 1 tournament
- Monday-Friday
- Girls In-Season:
- Weeks: 9
- Contests: 14 + 1 tournament
- Monday-Friday
- Attends organizational meetings for the team and coaches
- Attends annual athletic department meetings and seasonal player/parent meetings
- Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance
- Maintains certifications via NFHS/IHSAA
- Meets with varsity head coach before, during, and after the season to ensure program continuity
- Leads team in a community service project
- Assesses players skills and assigns team positions
- Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development
- Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport
- Observes players, during competitions and practices, to determine the needs for individual or team improvement
- Determines game strategy based on the team s capabilities
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times
- Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met
- Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete s injury
- Encourages players to play multiple sports
- Follows IHSAA/IIAAA/LMSAC regulations adopted by the athletic department
- Models sportsman-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators
- Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms
- Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records
- Performs any other related duties as assigned by the head coach, school principal, athletic director, or other appropriate administrators
- Is a participating member of coach s association
