TITLE:

Full Time Custodian
Starting at $14.50/hour

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Knowledge of:
Basic cleaning methods, procedures, and techniques;
Cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment;
Safe working methods and procedures.

2. Ability to:
Perform heavy manual activities;
Efficiently and effectively use cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment;
Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

3. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills would be:
a)

Experience:

Six months of experience involved with the care and cleaning of buildings and facilities.
b)

Education:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.

Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 50 to 75 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

This type of work involves ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps to a height of 40 feet, and will involve walking or standing for extended periods.

Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate heavy custodial equipment and use hand tools, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.

Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.

CLASSIFICATION:
This position is classified as a full time position and is subject to the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Board of School Trustees. Pay is hourly based on the Custodian schedule.

REPORTS TO:

Building Principal or Designee

JOB GOAL:
Under supervision, to maintain an assigned school facility, group of buildings, or office space in a clean, orderly, and secure manner following a predetermined schedule; and to do other related work as required.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sweep, mop, strip, wax, and seal floors.

Vacuum rugs and carpets.

Dust, wash, and polish furniture and woodwork.

Empty and clean waste receptacles, including trash barrels.

Cleans restrooms, locker rooms, and showers.

Wash windows and walls, polish metalwork and clean chalkboards.

Moves and arranges furniture and equipment in routine cleaning and preparing rooms for special events or meetings.

Replaces light bulbs and lighting tubes.

Cleans window coverings, such as drapes and blinds.

Picks up paper and other debris from school grounds, walk areas, and the areas adjacent to the school facilities.

Sweeps concrete surfaces adjacent to the school buildings.

Performs emergency cleanup service resulting from breakage, vandalism, spilling, and illness.

May raise and lower flags, and lock and unlock gates and doors, and set security systems.

Assists in receiving and distributing supplies and equipment.

Performs minor maintenance tasks in keeping assigned areas safe and operational.

Performs routine ground maintenance functions using hand and mechanized equipment.

Assists in reporting and preventing facility vandalism.

Performs other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Attendance and promptness are essential functions of the Full Time Custodian position.
