Overview
Position Summary. Performed customer service, administrative and related functions to assist in the performance of the Aspen Police Department.
Supervisions Received and Exercised:
Works under the general guidance and direction of the Administrative Supervisor. Position is non-supervisory.
- Customer Service (45%) Provides information, answers questions, responds to complaints, solves problems, and refers both walk-in and telephone traffic to the appropriate source. Provides notary services. Collects fees, payments, and issues receipts. Completes lost and found property reports. Processes and maintains daily police reports, disseminating copies to courts, other agencies, and pressboard. Coordinates and issues written notification of towed vehicles. Assists Parking Department with towed vehicle management.
Processes ski and bike registration and dog licenses. - Administrative (30%) Performs accounting, publishing, and clerical services for the departments of Administration, Investigations, Patrol, and Community Safety Office. Creates and updates a variety of forms. Orders and stocks office supplies.
- Outdoor Services (15%) Conducts Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) inspections. Accesses state and federal criminal justice computer systems. Moves and processes property off-site and works the Car and Bike auctions.
- Department Support (10%) Assists and provides back up for Public Safety Records. Assumes Community Safety Officer role as necessary including crowd control and traffic control for parades, special events, incidents or emergencies. Participation in Incident Command System (ICS) functions as required. Provides back up support to customer service team.
NOTE: Tasks and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, either orally or in writing.
Position will adhere to all City of Aspen safety policies while performing all duties assigned.
Minimum Requirements To Be Considered For This Position- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Work Experience: Must have at least two years experience in customer service, office or administrative work.
- License/Certificates: Valid Colorado Drivers License. Must take an Aspen Police Department or City of Aspen defensive driving course within six months of hire.
- Any combination: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the same job related knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted for the requirements above.
- Additional Requirements: Requires a high level of problem-solving ability, self-initiative and the ability and willingness to work a majority of the time without direct supervision. Personal conduct and behavior on duty as well as off duty must be such that it does not bring disrepute or unnecessarily endanger the public’s trust or confidence in the department or its members. Requires satisfactory completion of computer classes and/or training as necessary for this position at any time during employment at the discretion of the city.
Note: Position requires candidate to satisfactorily pass a criminal background check, polygraph test, physical and drug test.

- Work hours: 32 hour work week:
Four 8 hour days, during Monday through Friday (80%). Hours may vary with workload. Evening and weekends (10%):

Occasionally lifting boxes up to 40 pounds. - Compensation: Regular full-time position with complete City of Aspen benefits package. Non-exempt position with overtime paid for over 40 hours per week.
