Purpose
Food and food service delivery drivers fulfill a critical role in the country’s food supply chain. Our delivery drivers ensure customers’ products arrive at their destination on time and in good condition, and they are the face of our company – building lasting relationships with customers. Drivers operate a tractor trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes, delivering and unloading food and related products to customers in a safe and timely manner in accordance with Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).
Responsibilities
- Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers; answer questions accurately and promptly.
- Function as a team member and perform duties to best serve the company.
- Conduct all required safety checks (pre/post trip) and inspections of the tractor/trailer according to DOT regulations; ensure equipment meets safety standards and take corrective action as needed.
- Report safety issues and repairs required.
- Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies.
- Immediately report all safety hazards and inspect trailers for properly loaded and secured freight.
- Perform count checks of items and review customer invoices for loaded products.
- Complete required paperwork accurately and legibly.
- Move tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed.
- Drive to and deliver customer orders according to the predetermined route delivery schedule.
- Unload products from the trailer and transport items into designated customer storage areas.
- Perform damage control checks, scan, and coordinate with supervisor about removing orders per policy.
- Verify delivery with customers and obtain proper signatures.
- Collect money (cash or checks) where required. Load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors.
- Ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are secured.
- Unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork; unload all equipment and remove trash from trailers as required.
- Complete daily hours-of-service log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
- Perform general housekeeping in the tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clean.
- At the end of the shift, secure all equipment and complete necessary paperwork.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- 12 months commercial driving experience
- High school diploma/GED or state-approved equivalent
- Valid CDL A
- Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable)
- Must be 21 years of age
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) for past 3 years
- Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check
- Pass road test
- Valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
- Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight; typical product weights range from 10-35 pounds and can be up to 60-90 pounds depending on location
