Job DescriptionFlight Qualified Leaders are a talented group of individuals passionate about managing and leading a Flight Operations team. These aviation professionals fly UPS aircraft and help manage and oversee the UPS Airlines FAA Operating Certificate. They are a part of our Technical and Safety Teams, Daily Operations Team, Chief Pilot Division, and/or our Flight Training Division. Join them and you’ll certify as a Flight Qualified Captain or First Officer, depending on experience, on one of the UPS aircraft fleet types (B747, B757/B767, MD-11, or A300), where you’ll be assigned a position based on your experience, qualifications, and available openings.
Responsibilitiesand Qualifications
- Strong desire to be a leader that owns a culture of safety and service, by being a professional who embraces continuous learning through teamwork
- Previous leadership/management experience in the military or aviation industry
- Current unrestricted ATP certificate with an airplane category multi‑engine class rating and English proficiency endorsement
- Minimum of 4,000 total flight hours
- Minimum of 1,000 hours Pilot in Command (PIC) hours in fixed‑wing jet and/or fixed‑wing multi‑engine turboprop per 14 CFR
- 1.1 and 14 CFR (corrected)
- 121.436
- Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate
- FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit
- Valid passport and documentation allowing entry into the U.S. after an international flight
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
- 121.436 allows prospective Pilot in Command (PIC) to apply flight experience accrued in Part 121 operations prior to July 31 2013 towards meeting the PIC qualification.
- 121.436(a)(3) specifies a 1,000‑hour experience threshold for PIC in Part 121 operations.
- 121.436(d) permits use of PIC flight time obtained before July 31 2013 to satisfy the 1,000‑hour requirement.
- 121.436(e) grants exemption for pilots who were actively serving as PIC in Part 121 operations on July 31 2013.
- Credit of 500 hours of military flight time is allowed under certain conditions, as outlined in 121.436(b) and (c).
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Previous training/instructor experience in the military or aviation industry
- 14 CFR Part 121 airline or other turbojet/turboprop instructor experience and/or airline or equivalent military management experience is desired
- Willingness to self‑relocate to job location
As part of the UPS pre‑employment process for a safety‑sensitive position, a drug screen is required. UPS must receive a negative test result before you can be put into a safety‑sensitive position. The test complies with 14 CFR Part 120.107 and Part 120.109(a)(5). It screens for marijuana, cocaine, opiates, opioids, PCP, amphetamines, methamphetamines, and related metabolites.
