The Substation Protection & Control (P&C) Technician performs routine maintenance and installation work in high-voltage electrical substations. This position assists senior technicians with protection and control systems and develops the technical skills required to advance to higher classifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow all company and governmental safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Support higher classifications in the installation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of substation P&C equipment.
- Learn to safely operate and maintain tools, test equipment, and vehicles.
- Read and interpret electrical prints, switching diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Participate in classroom and on-the-job training to gain electrical fundamentals and substation knowledge.
- Maintain tools, materials, and work areas in safe and orderly condition.
- Report damaged equipment or hazards and correct them when safe to do so.
- Complete reports, forms, and documentation as required.
- Represent the company professionally and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Be available to report to any work location or shift, including emergencies.
- Fluent in English; able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Physically able to lift up to 75 lbs., climb, kneel, and work at heights or in confined spaces.
- Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and around energized high-voltage equipment.
- Possess a valid driver's license and qualify for CMV certification.
- Reliable, safety-conscious, and motivated to learn and advance within the trade.
- Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and clear communication skills.
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or related technical field.
- Working knowledge of basic electrical theory, mathematics, and measurement systems.
- Ability to recognize and mitigate electrical and physical hazards.
- Competent in the use of computers and basic software (Word, Excel, databases).
- Skilled in troubleshooting and analyzing substation equipment performance.
