The Groundman assists the team in building, repairing, and maintaining telecommunication distribution systems. Responsibilities include preparing and cleaning construction sites, loading/unloading materials, operating equipment, and assisting craft workers.
Responsibilities- Clean and prepare the construction site, removing debris and hazards.
- Work safely on energized and de‑energized overhead and underground lines.
- Assist installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, cross‑arms, insulators, switches, and switch gear.
- Set poles and anchors.
- Support the team to complete tasks effectively and meet project objectives.
- Identify utilities and watch dig crew to prevent utility hits.
- Clean up and maintain equipment.
- Restock trucks with supplies.
- Ensure safety of yourself and others.
- Operate vehicles and equipment professionally.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent, at least 1 year of experience.
- On‑the‑job training offered.
- Must be available for long periods, including evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to lift.
- Reach with hands and arms, climb, balance.
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl.
- Lift up to 50 lbs regularly, up to 100 lbs as needed.
- Maintain all safety expectations.
- Work outdoors for extended periods; exposed to extreme weather.
- Operate heavy machinery for prolonged periods; able to operate machinery in all weather and terrains; work at heights and/or confined spaces.
- Understand basic equipment set up and grounding.
- Excellent mechanical skills.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Work as a team.
- Oral communication skills.
