This role is a 3rd shift position, working from 11 PM to 7 AM. The officer reports to the Protection Services Executive Team Lead and will provide efficient protection and safety for visitors, volunteers, staff, and museum assets.
Base pay range$17.00/hr – $17.00/hr
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly
Salary: $17.00 per hour
Duties and Responsibilities- Monitors multiple systems and equipment, including but not limited to CCTV, burglar alarm, fire alarm, and access control.
- Responds promptly to exceptions in museum conditions, including alarms, building/property damage, electrical interruptions, gas/water leaks, flooding, and temperature/humidity controls.
- Performs receptionist duties for non‑public entrance and answers switchboard calls as requested.
- Maintains visitor registers and assists staff, visitors, volunteers, and delivery personnel using non‑public entrances and loading docks; responsible for documentation and after‑hour entry/egress reporting.
- Maintains key and card control and inventory.
- Provides courteous, friendly, efficient, and professional assistance in person, over the telephone, and through radio and public address systems while carrying out security and safety policies and procedures.
- Patrols buildings and grounds to prevent, report, and manage security and safety issues and concerns, including unauthorized, unsafe, and suspicious activities; follows emergency procedures and may lead evacuations, traffic management, and crowd control.
- Prepares reports of shift activities, incidents, and accidents, including unauthorized activities, vandalism, damage, fires, and theft.
- Executes assignments and projects such as equipment inspections, staff training, escorts, gate/security officer duties, and scheduling as requested.
- Monitors and leads evacuations when necessary for weather, fire alarms, or other threats.
- Reports incidents and problems affecting the building to the Building Services Manager and the Manager of the affected area.
- Receives and evaluates requests for security services and dispatches personnel as appropriate.
- Contacts 911 for police, fire, EMS, or other emergency personnel as needed in response to alarm events and threats to museum guests, employees, contractors, and assets.
- Maintains awareness of museum schedule and events.
- Requisition s equipment and supply needs through the Security Supervisor.
- Professional presence, effective verbal communication skills, and the ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
- Experience functioning independently, prioritizing, and being flexible with interruptions and changing priorities.
- 1+ year of security experience preferred.
- Verbal and written communication skills to fulfill responsibilities.
- Ability to be trained and function in all protection services assignments.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office and department‑specific software.
- Ability to work effectively with others, including visitors, staff, volunteers, donors, and representatives of partner organizations.
This position does not include any supervisory responsibility.
Work Environment- Includes offices, museum spaces (gallery and non‑gallery).
- Exterior grounds of the facility, parking garage, and other indoor/outdoor spaces.
- Ability to complete the following tasks with/without reasonable accommodations to fully meet the position requirements:
- Extensive use of telephone, radio, and computer throughout the workday.
- Must remain in a stationary position during shift.
- Ability to climb stairs throughout the shift.
- Ability to access merchandise, supplies, etc., intermittently during the workday.
- Communicates in English.
- Sees and hears or uses prosthetics that allow adequate functioning of these senses.
- Move equipment, supplies, etc., up to twenty‑five (25) pounds throughout the workday.
