Mohs Laboratory Technicians are primarily responsible for providing the Mohs Surgeon(s) with microscope slides that have been properly cut and stained in order to determine if skin margins are free of tumor, or if further surgery is needed.

The Laboratory Technician will work each day in the lab, embedding, cutting, and staining are the main duties of this position. Other duties include set-up, producing surgery reports, assembling sterile packs, and multiple other responsibilities as assigned.

Travel to other Mohs clinics in the area is required as needed.

Qualifications
  • Process, embed, cut, stain and coverslip
  • Filing slides
  • Produce Mohs Surgery Reports using Microsoft Word
  • Computer skills to include data entry and EMA knowledge
  • Ability to multitask in a high paced, sometimes high stress environment
  • Maintain spreadsheets for QA and QC monitoring
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with peers and management.
  • Other duties may include putting away stock, disposing of chemicals, changing the chemicals in the stainer, and communicating with staff and physicians about any problems regarding specimens
    • Prior experience as lab tech preferred.
    • Must have the ability to communicate clearly.
    • Must have the ability to work with all departments and personnel levels.
    • Must be able to work independently and maintain mental focus for long periods of time.
    • Prior experience in Dermatology a plus.
    Physical Requirements

    Must possess strong English oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with other medical staff and management. Eyesight must be sufficient to be able to read medical charts and computer monitors. Must possess manual dexterity sufficient to utilize reference materials and to manipulate pages in Medical Chart and to type on keyboards. The Laboratory Technician position requires very strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask.

    The Laboratory Technician functions as a key member of a team, working in a high-paced, sometimes high stress environment, to produce slides that meet or exceed physician specifications.

    Environmental Conditions

    Typical conditions of office environment. During initial phases of training, stress levels may exceed normal levels as new skills are learned and new information is assimilated.
