We create a better emergency experience—for patients, pet parents, and our team—our VEGgies.

VEG provides a career you want in veterinary emergency medicine, from open‑concept hospitals handling every type of case (including exotics) to a customer‑focused environment that sparks learning and mentorship. We are a certified Great Place to Work® for 2025 and 2026 and strive to make an impact for our VEGgies.

The Job

We grow future emergency rockstars. As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant, you’ll support the team, comfort pet parents, and learn hands‑on from day one—triage, treatments, and everything in between. • Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics—from bloodwork and imaging to catheter placement and oxygen support.
  • Work alongside veterinary technicians and veterinarians to set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation cases.
  • Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
  • Assist during every moment of care, whether outpatient or inpatient.
  • Join patient rounds to stay close to the clinical picture and ensure continuity of care.
  • Learn how to perform CPR and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided).
  • Grow into advanced responsibilities such as anesthesia support, ultrasound, and catheterization through guided training pathways.
  • Perform tasks permitted by state law.
What You Need
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Enrollment in an AVMA‑accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
  • At least 1 year in a veterinary assistant role; emergency or specialty experience is a bonus.
  • Basic computer skills and understanding of practice management software and electronic medical record keeping.
  • Excellent communicator when collaborating with pet parents and your team.
  • Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor; lift up to 25 kg alone and up to 40 kg with assistance.
  • Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as‑needed basis based on hospital demands.
  • Ability to work well in a fast‑paced environment with people from all backgrounds.
Who You Are
  • Empathetic and people‑centric, supporting colleagues and understanding diverse perspectives.
  • Humbly acknowledges mistakes, shares credit, and lifts the team's accomplishments.
  • Owns your work, takes responsibility for outcomes, and commits to long‑term impact.
  • Curious by nature, asking insightful questions and continually seeking learning opportunities.
How We Invest in You
  • Competitive compensation with base pay and a 401K match.
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits starting day one (medical, dental, vision, QPR training, free therapy or counseling).
  • Equity eligibility after one year for eligible roles, sharing in our growth.
  • Strong focus on learning and growth—clinical and leadership programs, unlimited ER continuing education, and travel stipends ($2,500/year for credentialed, $1,000/year for uncredentialed).
  • Clinical student loan repayment assistance.
  • Paid parental leave up to 10 weeks at 100% salary, inclusive fertility and family‑building care for all families.
  • Flexible work schedules to support life outside work.
  • Generous employee referral program.
  • Comfy scrubs, VEG swag, and fridge food for when you’re hungry.
