About The UnitThe twenty-four-bed Neuroscience unit offers specialized nursing assessment and care to patients with both neurological and neurosurgical diagnoses. Typical patients include those with a diagnosis of stroke, post-op craniotomy, post-op discectomy and other back surgeries, as well as post-cerebral embolization. Integrated into 24 beds, there is a 4 bed EMU dedicated to patients who meet criteria and are referred by Epileptologist for planned admission for evaluation and localization of potential epileptic events through VTrM.
Job SummaryThe Charge Nurse is an entry-level management position responsible for the coordination of care on designated shifts. He/she will provide leadership to the staff members of the unit in the area of patient care.
A) As a Registered Nurse, he/she implements the nursing process for each patient regardless of age (i.e., infancy to geriatric) assigned to his/her care and is responsible for the patient’s care within the parameters of the Kentucky Nurse Practice Act. The charge nurse promotes positive patient outcomes; quality of care and initiates change through active involvement in unit-based and hospital shared-governance councils.
B) National Professional Nursing Standards serve as guidelines for the charge nurse as he/she utilizes critical thinking skills and exercises appropriate nursing judgment. The charge nurse will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes. Also, the charge nurse will serve as a role model by actively participating in the process of continuous professional development, teaching and learning across the healthcare continuum.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and oversee patient care on designated shifts for the Neuroscience unit.
- Provide leadership to staff and ensure adherence to standards of care.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes.
- Participate in unit-based and hospital governance and continuous professional development.
- Active Kentucky RN License required.
- Associate's degree in nursing required.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required.
