Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) - 3rd Floor 4002 Building
The CICU is a 10 bed critical care unit specializing in cardiac, intensive level care. Patients with severe heart diseases such as severe CAD, AMI, post arrest, cardiomyopathy, and arrhythmias that need continuous monitoring will be cared for on this unit. Assistive devices, including balloon pumps, impellas, and temporary pacemakers, as well as invasive monitoring devices like SWANs and a-lines are common on CICU.
The CICU typically staffs with a one or two nurse to patient ratio to provide critical care. The patient population ranges from adults through geriatrics. BCLS and ACLS are/will be required. New graduate nurses are welcome.
The ICU nurse assesses and identifies patient needs and implements appropriate interventions for the patient. The ICU Nurse establishes and maintains a plan for the delivery of nursing care; assures that nursing care interventions and activities are directed to resolve problems; and performs technical aspects of care competently. ICU nurses must have strong critical thinking skills. The critical care nurse acts as a family and patient resource to guide them through all stages of the patient's critical care journey.
