Pay Range

Base pay: $51,266.00/yr – $80,572.00/yr

Summary

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2026. The initial cut‑off date for referral of eligible applications will be December 1, 2026, with subsequent cut‑off dates on the 1st of each month. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as‑needed basis until positions are filled.

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Qualifications
  • United States Citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy)
  • English Language Proficiency – proficiency in basic written and spoken English is required for direct patient care positions.
  • Education – Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) at the time the program was completed.
  • Licensure – Active, full, current and unrestricted licensure as a Graduate Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth.
  • Grandfathering Provision – may qualify based on VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (applicable to current VHA employees).
  • Grade‑specific requirements (GS‑3 to GS‑6):
    • GS‑3:
      None beyond Basic Requirements.
    • GS‑4:
      Six months of qualifying experience or equivalent.
    • GS‑5:
      At least 1 year of qualifying experience at the GS‑4 level or equivalent.
    • GS‑6:
      At least 1 year of additional qualifying experience at the GS‑5 level or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and skills in administering medications, wellness assessments, emergency interventions and patient education.
  • Preferred Experience – Geriatrics or Long‑Term Care;
    Ambulatory Care or Primary Care office setting.

Duties
  • Provide full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems.
  • Perform non‑standard and specialized practical nursing activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
  • Complete patient‑focused assessments, clinical reminders and reports.
  • Administer medications and injections, observe and document responses.
  • Collect urine specimens, conduct breathalyzers and other point‑of‑care specimen collections.
  • Label, store and manage lab specimens.
  • Participate in nursing reports and care‑team meetings.
  • Implement patient/family teaching programs related to health promotion.
  • Initiate therapeutic communications with Veterans and families.
  • Participate in unit committees provide input and reporting to Registered Nurse.
  • Travel to other clinics within Louisville as needed to cover workload and staff.
  • Work Schedule:

    Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
