Job Description SummaryThe Registered Nurse (Hospital-Based) is a competent registered nurse that will deliver nursing care to patients of varying age groups by utilizing the nursing process and nursing practice standards. The RN uses nursing and leadership competencies to coordinate care, develop professionally, and evaluate care based on evidence, the UofL Health quality model, and patient safety goals.
Responsibilities- Conduct systematic, continuous, and comprehensive assessments of patient health status from admission to discharge to ensure patient safety.
- Independently administer medications per licensure authority, assess and reassess effects, and document administration timely.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team to plan individualized care using current scientific knowledge and nursing interventions.
- Identify and prioritize patient problems and implement nursing care interventions to meet patient and family-centered health care needs.
- Assess, conduct, and evaluate outcomes of patient and family teaching, adapting to age, learning needs, and cultural background.
- Review patient and family responses to interventions, revise care plans, and prevent potential adverse events.
- Serve as an advocate for the patient and family, prepare them for discharge, and obtain feedback to promote satisfaction.
- Collaborate with unlicensed assistive healthcare providers, ensuring safe patient care delivery.
- Demonstrate professional conduct and appearance, accountable for actions and outcomes.
- Orient new team members and supervise students in assigned duties.
- Act as relief charge nurse when needed.
- Maintain professional competency through continuing education, licensure, and professional activities.
- Participate in evidence‑based practice activities and continuous quality improvement.
- Communicate constructively, resolve clinical/interdepartmental problems, and engage in peer review.
- Perform duties cost‑effectively, preserving resources without compromising quality.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
- Comply with HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Typical shift length: 8–12 hours. Overtime may be required infrequently or sometimes. Shift flexibility: may offer shorter shifts depending on department needs. Hours per week: required hours to meet agreed FTE.
Required QualificationsUofL Health will accept a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) from the NCSBN in lieu of a Kentucky Nursing License, per the KBN.
