About the role
The Assistant Production Supervisor oversees and coordinates the daily activities of roller, belt line, and tank room operators to ensure efficient and consistent production. Key responsibilities include monitoring production schedules and tracking completed products, enforcing company policies, and promoting a safe working environment. This role also maintains production rate records, trains new employees, and ensures that all work areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with 5S standards.
Responsibilities
Safety Leadership
Ensure all employees work in a safe environment and understand that safety is the top priority.
Identify, report, and address safety hazards and unsafe conditions.
Educate and motivate employees on safety practices, reinforcing that Safety Is Job Priority Number One.
Recommend and support improvements to processes, equipment, and work areas to enhance workplace safety.
Eliminate employee injuries through proactive safety education and consistent reinforcement of safe behaviors.
Production Oversight
Supervise production personnel and oversee daily processes and productivity.
Estimate product status and monitor progress toward schedule completion.
Assess staffing needs to maintain productivity and adjust labor as required.
Improve efficiency by identifying cost‑effective staffing strategies, including cross‑training employees to reduce overtime.
Ensure employees are properly trained, job‑knowledgeable, and capable of producing a superior product.
Provide practical solutions to operational and control‑related issues.
Assign job duties as needed to support workflow and production goals.
Monitor pack schedules for product changes and adjust operations accordingly.
Track product rates, hourly output, downtime, and other key performance indicators.
Enforce non‑compliance procedures related to safety, production, employee conduct, equipment issues, and other plant matters.
Seek opportunities to complete work safer, faster, and more cost‑effectively.
Training & Development
Train employees based on individual needs and company requirements.
Support cross‑training initiatives to build workforce flexibility and reduce labor shortages.
Cost Control
Contribute to cost‑control efforts by minimizing waste, shrinkage, and product loss.
Support staffing strategies that maintain production capacity with minimal labor overhead.
Communication & Administrative Skills
Communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with management and co‑workers.
Use measuring tools, telephones, email, and common office equipment as part of daily functions.
Maintain accurate records of production rates, downtime, and product output.
Physical & Operational Requirements
Stand or sit for extended periods.
Maintain normal hearing and vision for communication and task performance.
Lift up to 50 lbs. intermittently.
Use manual dexterity for computers, calculators, copiers, and measuring tools.
Climb ladders and stairs as needed.
Operate heavy equipment such as forklifts and man‑lifts.
Walk frequently throughout the facility.
Read and interpret weight scales.
Use propane torches, steam lines, and air lines safely.
Operate flake and shortening palletizers.
