The Production Planner / Supervisor is responsible for coordinating, planning, and executing all manufacturing production orders to ensure efficient workflow across the facility. This role manages production orders from release through completion, ensuring accurate reporting, tracking, and closeout within the ERP system (Axapta). The Planner/Supervisor establishes daily production priorities for each department and works closely with both operations and support teams to maintain smooth production flow.
Reporting to the Production Manager, Planner/Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring production moves efficiently from one department to the next while maintaining accurate system updates at every stage of the manufacturing process.
- Confirm customer orders based on material availability and production capacity
- Release and manage production orders in alignment with material availability
- Develop and maintain the Manufacturing Production Schedule (MPS) based on sales orders and forecasted demand
- Perform capacity planning, production scheduling, and production control
- Process and manage internal work orders
- Supervise the Press Department to ensure production goals, schedules, and tasks are met
- Enforce and maintain high standards of quality and safety on the shop floor
- Collaborate closely with all manufacturing teams to meet capacity and production requirements
- Review and update the Production Master Schedule daily in coordination with the Supply Chain team
- Replan production and improve order confirmations as required
- Coordinate with the Supply Team to ensure material availability aligns with the production schedule
- Identify and mitigate risks such as material shortages or manpower constraints that could impact production
- Assess press volume requirements against planning assumptions
- Proactively manage and minimize risks to the production schedule
- Follow up on material shortages that affect production output
- Implement standardized processes, support continuous improvement initiatives, and identify opportunities for operational enhancement
- Utilize MRP and other IT systems to ensure accurate, timely data and resolve discrepancies
- Monitor press and coil inventory levels against established targets
- Support inventory audits and accuracy checks
- Maintain master data within the ERP system (Axapta), including creating production orders, posting picklists, and closing completed orders
- Continuously challenge and improve production planning and execution processes across departments
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Industrial or Production Engineering, or Business Administration (preferred)
• Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in production planning, manufacturing, or supply chain operations
• Strong computer skills, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Experience with process documentation and recordkeeping
• Working knowledge of production planning concepts and MRP systems
• Experience with ERP systems such as Axapta or SAP
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Collaborative team player with the ability to integrate into an established team
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-pressure, multitasking environment
• U.S. work authorization required
Preferred Experience
• Lean manufacturing principles (e.g., Kanban, Pull systems, kitting) in a continuous improvement environment
• Planning in environments with small batch sizes and high product variation (MTS, MTO, ATO)
• Advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas, etc.)
• Product segmentation and analysis methodologies (ABC analysis, Pareto principles)
• Structured problem-solving tools (8D, Ishikawa, 5 Whys)
