The Production Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of department performance, with full accountability for safety, quality, productivity, and cost control. This role provides hands-on leadership to production teams while driving continuous improvement initiatives and ensuring compliance with regulatory, industry, and internal standards. The Production Manager plays a critical role in maximizing uptime, meeting customer requirements, and developing a high-performing workforce.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafety Leadership
- Champion a strong safety-first culture across all operations, with an emphasis on housekeeping and hazard awareness.
- Ensure full compliance with OSHA regulations and internal safety policies.
- Lead safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective action implementation.
Operational Management
- Plan, organize, and manage galvanizing processes to meet production schedules, throughput targets, and customer requirements.
- Monitor line performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions to maintain continuous and efficient flow.
- Oversee preventive maintenance activities and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime and production disruptions.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure adherence to all applicable industry standards and internal quality requirements.
- Partner with engineering, quality, and technical teams to troubleshoot issues and maintain product integrity.
- Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality deviations.
Cost & Resource Control
- Manage operating budgets and monitor consumables, utilities, and material usage.
- Identify and implement cost-reduction and efficiency initiatives.
- Optimize energy usage and reduce waste through process and equipment improvements.
- Lead, coach, and motivate production supervisors and hourly teams to achieve departmental goals.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support training and skill development initiatives.
- Foster accountability, engagement, and continuous learning within the workforce.
- Lead process optimization initiatives focused on efficiency, reliability, and consistency.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools where appropriate to improve operational performance.
- Support capital projects and process upgrades related to operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering preferred, or equivalent manufacturing leadership experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing leadership experience, preferred experience within metal production or metal coating operations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and production or maintenance management systems.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and problem-solving capabilities in an industrial environment.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, AISC, and related quality standards.
- Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings and technical specifications.
- Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, or operational excellence initiatives.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
