About the roleThe Maintenance Instrument Control Technician (MICT) is responsible for the successful daily operation of the vegetable oil processing/packaging facility and the modification, maintenance, and alteration of plant automated controls and power systems (up to 480
VAC). This role requires collaboration with other employees, the Instrument Controls Engineer, and the Maintenance & Reliability Manager to ensure safety, prioritize work, and document changes in plant physical or logic systems. When not handling Instrument Controls duties, the technician will perform routine maintenance on the oil refining and packaging equipment, aiming to preserve assets and improve maintenance services and processes.
- Lead safety initiatives and support plant-wide safety compliance to achieve zero accidents.
- Support safety during construction and maintenance activities, reporting and correcting near misses.
- Adhere to SOPs and work procedures to ensure product quality and consistency.
- Work 12-hour rotating night shifts and weekends (7 pm - 7 am).
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot factory instruments (temperature, pH, pressure, PLCs, wiring, flow devices).
- Program, diagnose, and repair PLC logic for process improvements.
- Maintain industrial motors, VFDs, electrical distribution, and protection circuits up to 480
VAC. - Document work via CDs, P&IDs, logic prints.
- Analyze equipment failures, perform root cause analysis, and repair electrical and mechanical systems (pneumatics, hydraulics, drives, conveyors).
- Implement electrical improvements and complete preventative maintenance.
- Collaborate across departments to meet operational goals.
- Maintain packaging, conveyor, steam, pumps, piping, and refrigeration systems.
- Read and interpret P&, ladder logic, and schematics.
- Maintain facilities (lighting, doors, roofs).
- Use CMMS system to respond to work orders, document actions, and communicate with teams.
- Participate in safety committees, audits, and employee taskforces.
- Control costs by minimizing downtime, scrap, and utility usage; support spare parts management and vendor relationships.
Qualifications include:
- 2-year Technology degree (or in last semester), OR 2+ years electrical experience, OR military electronics experience.
- 3-5 years industrial maintenance experience.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Preferred:
Associates in Industrial Maintenance, welding, electrical, refrigeration, conveyor systems, PLCs, plumbing, HVAC, CMMS. - Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics, interpret drawings, and troubleshoot independently.
- Willingness to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including weekends.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
