Position Overview

The General Manager is responsible for all aspects of all food and beverage operations, including financial performance, staff leadership, guest experience, regulatory compliance, and venue maintenance. This role requires dynamic leadership in a fast-paced, high-energy environment while maintaining profitability and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Management
    • Develop and manage operating budgets with revenue targets of $4 million+ annually
    • Monitor and optimize P&L performance including labor costs, beverage costs, and operational expenses
    • Analyze daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports and adjust strategies accordingly
    • Implement revenue-driving initiatives including VIP table service, bottle programs, and special events
  • Operations Leadership
    • Oversee all front-of-house and back-of-house operations for venues serving 500-800 guests nightly
    • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for all departments
    • Manage event planning and execution for special promotions, DJ performances, and private events
    • Ensure seamless coordination between security, bar staff, servers, hosts, and production teams
    • Maintain facility in peak condition including sound systems, lighting, HVAC, and physical plant
  • Staff Management
    • Recruit, hire, train, and develop a team of 30-75+ employees across all departments
    • Create staff schedules optimizing coverage for peak volume periods (typically Thursday-Saturday)
    • Conduct performance evaluations and implement corrective action when necessary
    • Foster a positive, accountable team culture in a high-pressure environment
    • Lead pre-shift meetings and ongoing training programs
  • Guest Experience & Safety
    • Maintain exceptional service standards for general admission and VIP clientele
    • Handle guest relations issues and service recovery promptly and professionally
    • Oversee door operations including guest list management, capacity control, and queue management
    • Partner with security team to maintain safe environment and handle incidents appropriately
    • Build relationships with promoters, influencers, and VIP clientele
  • Compliance & Risk Management
    • Ensure full compliance with liquor licensing laws, health codes, and occupancy regulations
    • Maintain relationships with local authorities, licensing boards, and community stakeholders
    • Implement and enforce responsible alcohol service policies
    • Oversee security protocols, emergency procedures, and incident documentation
    • Manage liability insurance requirements and safety training programs
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years progressive management experience in high-volume hospitality (nightlife, high-volume bars, or entertainment venues preferred)
  • Proven track record managing P&L and achieving financial targets in venues with $3-10+ million annual revenue
  • Strong leadership skills managing large, diverse teams in fast-paced environments
  • Deep understanding of beverage operations, cost controls, and inventory management
  • Knowledge of liquor licensing, health department regulations, and local ordinances
  • Excellent crisis management and conflict resolution abilities
  • Proficiency with POS systems, scheduling software, and Microsoft Office/Google Suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with VIP bottle service programs and high-end hospitality
  • Established relationships with entertainment industry professionals, DJs, and promoters
  • Background in event production, marketing, or promotions
  • Beverage certifications (TIPS, Serv Safe Alcohol, Cicerone, or sommelier credentials)
  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business, or related field
Work Environment & Schedule
  • High-energy, loud environment with extended periods of standing
  • Must be available for emergency situations and unexpected operational needs
  • Some daytime administrative work required for meetings, planning, and vendor management
