Underwriting Manager, Farm

Overview

We are seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Farm Underwriting Manager for the Mid Atlantic region. The successful candidate will manage a book of business valued at approximately $50M and lead 8 direct reports across the states of CT, KY, MA, MD, OH, PA, VA, and WV. The base salary range for this role is $120,000 – $225,000 per year, with additional compensation potential tied to performance.

• Leadership:
  Acquire, retain and develop underwriting talent. Coach underwriters in both technical and professional skills to foster continuous improvement.
• Risk Selection:
  Implement strategies to evaluate risk quality and enhance underwriting skill sets when qualifying, selecting and assessing risk.
• Agent/Broker Relationships:
  Build and maintain relationships with key Agents and Brokers to support business growth and partnership.
• Portfolio Management:
  Evaluate portfolio performance based on profitability metrics, multiline diversification, reinsurance and industry trends.
• Quality Audit and Account Review:
  Ensure files meet regulatory requirements and internal documentation standards; coach underwriters to articulate thought processes and decision making within account reviews.

• High level understanding of commercial property & casualty products, insurance operations, finance, actuarial concepts, regulatory environment and reinsurance.
• Advanced degree or equivalent training preferred; CPCU designation (or equivalent) preferred.
• 7+ years of relevant experience in underwriting or related functions.
• Strong analytical, problem solving, decision making, negotiation and influencing skills; ability to build relationships and communicate effectively.
• Planning and organizing work; achieving results.
