About the RoleWe are looking for a hands-on Systems Engineer to help design and build future generations of smart textile–based incontinence solutions
. This is a doer role
, not a pure architect or manager. You will write firmware, contribute to electronics design, develop system-level software logic, and physically build and test prototypes.
You’ll work end-to-end across smart textiles, sensors, embedded electronics, firmware, and data
, helping take products from early concept through real-world deployment in care environments.
- Write and debug embedded firmware for smart textile sensing systems
- Contribute to electronics design (schematics review, component selection, power, sensing circuits)
- Develop system-level logic that ties sensors, firmware, and data outputs together
- Build, test, and iterate on physical prototypes (not just paper designs)
- Define and implement interfaces between textiles, sensors, electronics, firmware, and software
- Translate user and clinical needs into practical, buildable system requirements
- Perform trade studies (sensing methods, durability, wash life, power, cost, performance)
- Design and execute verification tests and analyze real-world performance data
- Support design controls and risk management activities in a regulated environment
- Work closely with manufacturing to ensure designs are scalable, durable, and cost-effective
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Computer, Biomedical, Systems, or similar)
- ~5+ years of experience in hands-on product development
- Strong experience writing embedded firmware (Arduino, ESP
32, STM
32, or similar) - Solid foundation in electrical engineering (sensors, analog/digital circuits, power)
- Experience contributing to software or data pipelines (embedded logic, device-to-cloud, or analytics)
- Comfortable moving between code, schematics, textiles, and test data
- Experience working in or adjacent to regulated medical or healthcare products
Strongly Preferred
- Experience with smart textiles, e-textiles, or soft-goods medical devices
- Familiarity with capacitive, moisture, or biosensing systems
- Experience designing washable or reusable electronic products
- Exposure to FDA design controls, verification & validation, or ISO 13485 environments
- Experience working with real-world field data to improve product performance
- Not a purely theoretical systems role
- Not a project manager position
- Not a “write specs and hand off” job
This role is for someone who designs, builds, tests, fixes, and ships
.
You’ll help create products that:
- Improve dignity and outcomes in incontinence care
- Reduce caregiver workload through real-time sensing
- Advance the state of smart textiles in healthcare
- Move quickly from prototype to real-world impact
