Job DescriptionThe Polysom Technologist performs and operates sleep study equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and with physician oversight. Responsibilities include conducting polysomnography, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) titration, home sleep testing, and electroencephalography. The technologist records patient files, faxes reports as needed, performs clerical duties, and cleans and prepares equipment for patient use.
Responsibilities- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- Performs procedures to ensure quality patient care in accordance with accrediting body and sleep physician expectations/protocols.
- Participates in hospital and department quality assurance programs to ensure safety and satisfaction.
- Contributes to the efficient operation and monitoring of the department and utilizes resources efficiently.
- Demonstrates complete working knowledge of equipment within assigned area.
- Supports department/organization goals; works as a team player by enhancing team effectiveness and assisting team members.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (required)
- Graduate of an accredited school of Sleep Technology or completed the A-Step Sleep Program (preferred)
- Previous experience in EEG or Polysomnography (required)
- Must have Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BPRT) prior to employment (required)
- Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) prior to start of employment (required)
