A Medical Assistant performs administrative and clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties include scheduling appointments and maintaining medical records. Clinical duties include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed.
Key Responsibilities- Interact professionally with patients.
- Accompany and settle patients in the exam room before the physician’s visit.
- Takes vitals (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, height) and enters them into the EMR.
- Obtain current medication list, verify allergies, and perform medication reconciliation.
- Acquire patient history and chief complaint, documenting in complete sentences with proper grammar.
- Perform office tests such as rapid strep tests and smell tests as requested; document results.
- Update surgical history in the Surgical History section after procedures by our physicians and when patients return with other physicians’ surgeries.
- Draw blood specimens, label, and prepare for laboratory; ensure appropriate lab based on insurance.
- Obtain patient signed informed consent; administer intramuscular injections (steroids, vitamin B12) and document completion.
- Update provider order for next patient to minimize wait time.
- Clean and prepare exam room promptly for the next patient.
- Retrieve, direct and respond to messages from the nursing line.
- Call in prescriptions as directed by physicians.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, AAOA and company policies.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, co‑workers, and self.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Medical Assistant certification preferred.
- CPR certification preferred.
