The CT Technologist performs CT scans according to established protocols. The CT Technologist demonstrates an understanding of human cross‑sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology. The CT Technologist maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure technique. The CT Technologist maintains knowledge and awareness of radiation protection and safety during all radiographic examinations. The CT Technologist prepares for and assists the radiologist with intricate CT examinations, including a range of tissue biopsies and fluid drainages.
The CT Technologist will prepare and administer contrast media in accordance with hospital policy and procedure as well as state and federal regulations.
- Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information pertinent to the examination being performed, including correct patient identification and order verification.
- Assesses patient to determine and develop an action plan for completing the procedure.
- Performs pre‑ and post‑exam patient education pertinent to the exam being performed.
- Produces CT scans according to established protocols within the Diagnostic Imaging Department with a high degree of accuracy.
- Evaluates finished images/series for technical accuracy and diagnostic quality.
- Demonstrates good radiation safety practices during radiographic examinations to include correct FOV, lead shields as appropriate, and determining pregnancy status of women of childbearing years.
- Performs venipuncture and contrast injections in accordance with department and hospital guidelines.
- Ensures examinations are complete and logged in the computer system.
- Instructs Radiologic Technology students in CT scan positioning and technique.
- Attends and participates in department staff meetings and in‑services.
- Assists in training new personnel in hospital and department procedures.
- Takes an active role in gaining and maintaining proficiency in hospital and radiology equipment and information systems needed in performance of job responsibilities.
- Uses appropriate customer‑relations skills to ensure that customer expectations are met, including flexibility in scheduled hours.
- Assists in quality‑improvement programs in the department.
- Maintains appropriate credentials and certification related to clinical practice and ensures a current copy is on file in the department/hospital.
- Ensures that assigned areas are kept clean, neat, and orderly.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Graduate of a JRC approved program in Radiologic Technology
- Registered with ARRT
- KY Radiation Operators certification
- BLS
- CT Certification preferred at time of hire but required within 1 year of employment
- Prefer at least 1 year of recent experience as a CT Technologist
