OverviewWe are looking for a Commercial Banking Leader to drive middle‑market business loan growth in a specific market area. The ideal candidate has ten plus years of experience in commercial banking and a strong track record of winning new business and expanding client relationships in a highly desirable market.
Job PurposeThe Commercial Banking Leader will focus on commercial and industrial lending, identify and secure middle‑market business loan growth, and lead a high‑performing commercial banking team. The role will build excitement around Peoples Bank’s breadth of product offerings and partner with other business units to capitalize on opportunities to serve the commercial banking market.
Job Duties- Gain a broad understanding and appreciation of Peoples Bancorp, its competitive advantages, and its culture of high performance.
- Leverage Peoples Bancorp’s key competitive advantage to grow commercial banking revenue and build a strong pipeline of middle‑market clients.
- Attract, retain, and acquire high‑quality middle‑market clients and grow revenue through a strong commercial banking team.
- Use internal referral system and existing relationships from other Peoples Bancorp businesses to maximize commercial banking opportunities in the market.
- Develop new business leads for commercial banking using professional contacts and participate in community events and high‑profile events.
- Advocate Peoples Bancorp’s competitive advantages to the community and reaffirm the company’s intense interest in conducting quality commercial banking business in the market.
- Identify and advise prospective clients on Peoples Bancorp’s comprehensive commercial banking capabilities and present a compelling case for clients to conduct business with Peoples Bancorp.
- Refer colleagues to clients with the goal of demonstrating additional capabilities, including financing, leasing, insurance, and retirement solutions.
- Recruit, hire, train, and manage a high‑performing commercial banking team and provide performance feedback and developmental action plans.
- Create a positive, energetic, collaborative, team‑oriented and productive work environment.
- Achieve established departmental goals within defined timelines, define measurement of acceptable staff performance, and educate staff on regulatory changes and policies.
- Perform special projects as assigned.
Job Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree is a plus. - Ten plus years of sales experience in commercial banking with a respected organization.
- Demonstrated success in prospecting, winning new business, and expanding client relationships in a highly desirable market.
- Strong working knowledge of credit and the ability to deliver comprehensive banking solutions to high‑net‑worth clients.
- Preferably, longevity in the Washington D.C. metro area; knowledge of the local business climate and ability to access CFOs, CEOs, and COIs.
- Active participation in professional, charitable, or community organizations and well connected to key centers of influence in accounting, legal, and government organizations.
- Travel required.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent business development experience.
- 10+ years experience in commercial banking.
