Tax Accountant
Overview
Summary Objective:
The purpose of this position is to perform complex tax preparation, document review, and account analysis. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
- Updates and maintains account information.
- Provides information to customers regarding local taxation to individuals, partnerships, and corporations.
- Prepares taxes and related forms based on information supplied by the taxpayer or designee.
- Reviews and analyzes tax forms and applications for accuracy, making corrections as necessary.
- Educates and advises taxpayers of local tax responsibilities including, but not limited to, filing deadlines and tax payment obligations.
- Provides e-services support to taxpayers.
- Manages inbound and outbound taxpayer calls, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive customer experience.
- Cashiers tax payments and maintains cash drawer.
- Establishes taxpayer payment plans.
- Communicates, as directed, with other Metro agencies and LMRC internal divisions.
- Determines when taxpayer needs should be escalated and resolved at a higher level.
- Stays abreast of policies and procedures to provide accurate and consistent information to internal and external customers.
- Communicates with individuals in person or otherwise, utilizing all types of communication channels.
- Assists in training as needed.
- Operates office/computer equipment.
- Performs related work, other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Finance or related discipline.
- Two (2) years of experience in customer service, accounting, finance, tax, or collections or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must adhere to all applicable regulatory requirements.
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
- Spends prolonged periods of time sitting.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
