Handling multi-state sales/use tax recovery projects for large, sophisticated organizations takes more than just a technical understanding of current sales and use tax rules. As a Sales and Use Tax Senior assigned to EY’s Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review Center of Excellence (COE), you’ll build and apply your knowledge on a wide range of sales and use tax recovery projects for clients in multiple industries.
OpportunityOur Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review COE is a national team that leads large multi-state sales and use tax recovery projects for EY’s largest clients. It’s here you’ll find everything you need to develop as a multi-state sales and use tax practitioner. It’s all about taking on new skills and responsibilities as they arise and making the most of our dedicated mentors and training programs.
Key ResponsibilitiesThere’s no average day – you’ll work on a diverse array of projects and tasks. You’ll provide up-to-the-minute tax advice, collaborate with colleagues, and listen to and share information in a highly collaborative culture.
Skills and Attributes for Success- Researching clients’ business operations and building long-lasting relationships.
- Identifying applicable sales and use tax exemptions and exclusions.
- Identifying potential over payment opportunities or risks and communicating these to clients.
- Monitoring current tax law changes to maintain credibility as a trusted advisor.
- Developing clear, intelligent plans and approaches for sales and use tax recoveries.
- Preparing and defending sales and use tax refund claims.
- Participating on a motivated team of professionals.
- Supervising a motivated team of professionals, ensuring they have skills, knowledge and opportunities to reach their full potential.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related discipline.
- Professional knowledge in a broad range of sales and use tax processes, concepts and tools.
- Proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization.
- Technical writing and research experience in a tax context.
- Ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects.
- Strong influencing skills and confidence to question existing processes.
- Willingness to travel as needed and work in a balanced hybrid environment.
- Achieved or partially achieved CPA qualification, or certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, CMI designation, or ability to sit for a state bar.
