The Louisville District is recruiting for an Interdisciplinary Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineer GS-0810/0830/850-12 (04659) to serve as a Project Engineer in the Maintenance Section, Operations Division located at the Louisville District Office, Louisville, KY.

• Serve as a Project Engineer, with responsibility of assuring that all repair projects are afforded proper priority, that needed information and resources are available, and that commitments are met.
• Submit design sketches to the Chief, Maintenance Section or Project Managers for discussion and cursory review.
• Provide technical advice in case of major breakdown/navigation accident at navigation structures, analyze problems and develop recommendations for remedial action and, as designated, technically oversee repairs performed by repair party.
• Analyze problems and develop recommendations for remedial action.
• Make field inspections to determine condition of equipment, such as lock gates, valves, tainter gates, bulkheads, cranes, hydraulic cylinders, and related equipment.

• This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
• One year trial/probationary period may be required.
• Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances are not authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest.
• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Business travel is required approximately 50% of the time.

Minimum Education Requirement:
Engineering:
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in engineering. The program must lead to a degree in a school with at least one program accredited by ABET. Degree must be documented on a transcript.

GS-11 Specialized

Experience:

One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with developing design plans and specification; assisting in developing designs of mechanical, civil or electrical features used with construction projects; and utilizing various forms of computer hardware and software to accomplish assigned tasks. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Combination of

Education and Experience:

A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18.
