This position independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, policies, procedures, and criteria using judgment in identifying and implementing enhancements, adaptations, and modifications to existing and/or new equipment and systems. This position will provide technical support and guidance to the Gas Control organization. Additionally, this position may represent the company to external industry groups and organizations.
Position is located in Louisville, KY.
Responsibilities- Knowledgeable of and proficiently apply various code references which pertain to Gas Control; this includes but may not be limited to 49 CFR Part 191 and 192, TSA security directives, and TSA security guidelines.
- Provide oversight and technical development/engineering support of the Gas SCADA system.
- Plan and perform design, development and/or operating engineering assignments which include responsibility for the engineering, construction, and project management for Gas Control and Storage projects, with a focus on maximizing Gas Control's ability to safely monitor and control the gas system.
- Support the day-to-day operational needs of Gas Control.
- Support SR&O and IM&E operation groups with engineering-based troubleshooting, problem analysis, and resolution.
- Research and implement industry best practices and new technologies to support Gas Control operations.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and/or suggests improved methods.
- Engineering assignments are broad in nature and incumbent will have the latitude of and the responsibility for unreviewed actions or decisions.
- Actively participate in Gas Control regulatory compliance initiatives.
- Assists with the development of department/engineering goals, objectives, budgets, programs, and procedures.
- Plans and controls all activities so as to provide an accident-free work place.
- Regularly reviews assignments to assure optimum efficiency and cost effectiveness.
- Directs the activities of cooperative interns, bargaining unit employees and others, as required.
- Perform other duties as directed by management.
- Available to support on-call and emergency response duties.
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree ABET Accredited Bachelor’s degree in engineering
10+ years of engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering plus 8 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 7 years of engineering experience. Utility system operator experience will be counted as engineering experience for this position.
Applicants must be able to pass the requirements for Operator Qualification under Department of Transportation regulations 192.801. Demonstrated experience in exercising independent judgment and decision making through the delivery of defined projects.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrates qualities of initiative, ability to work independently, and proven analytical abilities.
Experience with Operational Technology, specifically Industrial Control Systems.
