Overview
Experience in the design and/or operation of PWR and/or BWR plants, including primary and secondary systems. Past experience with feasibility studies, equipment reliability issues, system modifications and upgrades to improve safety and reliability desired. Demonstrated use of independent judgment in performing calculations, modifications and designs and able to present and justify modification packages to quality and safety reviews. Superior technical knowledge of mechanical discipline and ability to work on project teams with other engineers to evaluate conditions and develop design changes which will improve plant performance, safety and reliability.
Ability to interface and work with equipment vendors as needed.
Familiar with codes and standards applicable to the nuclear power industry as well as possess working knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations (including the NRC). Superior client skills and understanding of the roles of other disciplines, as well as ability to coordinate and interface with other disciplines is a must.
Responsibilities- Contribute to the design and operation of PWR/BWR plant systems, ensuring safety and reliability improvements.
- Perform calculations, feasibility studies, engineering evaluations, and assess design changes to upgrade nuclear power plant systems.
- Develop and justify modification packages for quality and safety reviews; interface with vendors as needed.
- Collaborate with project teams and other disciplines to evaluate conditions and develop design changes to improve plant performance, safety, and reliability.
- Review and check designs, drawings and data prepared by other engineers.
- Education Required (minimum): BS degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Experience Required (minimum): 15 years (minimum) of experience with at least 8 years in commercial nuclear power industry. Knowledge of the design and/or operation of PWR and/or BWR plants, including primary and secondary systems. Experience with performing calculations, feasibility studies, engineering evaluations, system modifications and/or upgrades to nuclear power plant systems to improve safety and reliability. Experience in reviewing and checking designs, drawings and data prepared by other engineers.
- Other Required Qualifications (minimum): Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills. Proficiency in Mathcad, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Effective time management. Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted commercial nuclear power plant access. Willingness to work overtime and travel to client sites. Ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, including climbing ladders, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous areas.
- Preferred Education: MS in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- Preferred Certification(s) or License(s): Engineer-In-Training (EIT) registration is desirable.
