Job Summary

As the key role for the introduction of new US product platforms, the Laboratory Technician will assure that R&D activities related to product testing and evaluation meet the needs of the consumer. The Laboratory Technician will serve as a group leader for the R&D center product and process testing. The Laboratory Technician is responsible for maintaining a strong communication link between the product design teams and the Lab Manager.

It is critical that the Laboratory Technician have the ability to develop technical knowledge of system/sub-system level testing, and ability to influence all levels of organization and to maintain and develop lab processes and procedures to ensure product compliance to energy and safety standards and to ensure continuous improvement of efficiency of each laboratory. The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for laboratory maintenance and calibration, as well as participating in innovation sessions, root cause analysis and will participate in and work on mechanical design projects as required by the team.

The Lab Technician will also support laboratory operations and testing activities while aligning with both the division’s strategic objectives and the laboratory’s technical and compliance standards.

This position is full-time and fully on-site. Some domestic and international travel is required. Some heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.

  • Collaborate with the Platform Engineering Director and Lab Manager to ensure alignment between R&D objectives and laboratory testing practices.
  • Lead testing and evaluation of division appliances, developing and maintaining lab equipment procedures and energy/safety tests.
  • Support the Lab Manager in developing and maintaining lab standards, test procedures, compliance, regulatory standards, and efficiency while executing priorities set by the Platform Engineering Director.
  • Communicate progress, issues, and results to both reporting lines as appropriate.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal and external engineering teams on project work and product development.
  • Conduct standardized testing and develop key process indicators to drive product compliance and facilitate consumer satisfaction.
  • Maintain testing dashboards and implement audits to support corrective actions and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain laboratory consumables, equipment calibration, and execute special projects or assignments as needed.
  • Participate in technical project reviews, including Service, Safety, and Installation.
  • Lead problem-solving efforts and conduct root cause analysis to improve product quality
  • Implement projects and special assignments as required.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Hands on ability to prototype.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skill and ability to prioritize tasks appropriately.
  • A self-starter and self-disciplined in accomplishing tasks.
  • Strong desire to learn with ability to be self-taught.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Education and Experience
  • Preferred experience:

    2-5 years of experience working as a technical lab technician or service technician;
    Mechanical technical certificate or mechanical technician degree program.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to perform work within a laboratory environment for extended periods, which may include periods of walking, standing, or sitting, as needed to complete essential tasks.
