Join HDR as a Senior Operations Specialist (Water) – a full‑time, senior‑level role with 30–40% travel across the United States. The primary location is Vienna, VA with additional opportunities nationwide.
We are seeking an energetic, hard‑working problem solver to design, implement and manage both municipal and industrial water treatment projects. Your expertise will help ensure safe drinking water, effective wastewater treatment, and robust flood control solutions that support public health, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure resilience.
Primary Responsibilities- Support HDR project leaders at local, state, and regional levels on water treatment projects requiring Operations Specialist input.
- Review drawings for operability and Haz Ops analysis to ensure successful operation of diverse treatment processes.
- Manage operations and maintenance projects, including client interfacing, regulatory reporting, personnel, subcontractor, and maintenance management.
- Develop startup and commissioning plans; host workshops to share these plans with client contractors and operators.
- Perform startup and commissioning of new water treatment facilities with contractors and engineers.
- Deliver formal and informal training to help clients operate their plants to the highest standards.
- Participate in facility testing to confirm readiness for startup and post‑startup capacity requirements.
- Conduct condition assessment and asset management tasks on water and wastewater facilities using state‑of‑the‑art evaluation tools.
- Execute operational or maintenance troubleshooting and evaluations on municipal and industrial water facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of field experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment at water treatment facilities and/or resolving water treatment process problems; construction experience is a plus.
- High level water treatment operator license or professional engineering license.
- Ability to interpret engineering plans and specifications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance and management systems.
- Commitment to being an active participant in HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
- Valid driver’s license.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Microsoft Office product experience.
- General background‑related experience.

Expected compensation for this position ranges from $71,960 to $128,500, depending on skills, experience, education, and geographic location.
